Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: Global Capacity is a telecom information and logistics company that helps clients reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of their access networks globally. Through its One Marketplace Global Access Exchange strategy, Global Capacity pursues its vision of enabling ubiquitous access network solutions across geographies and suppliers. This strategy is enabled by the company’s two core platforms – One Marketplace Information Exchange and One Marketplace Network Exchange.
One Marketplace Information Exchange is Global Capacity’s core information management and workflow automation platform that enables transparency and automation in the fragmented access network market. Its capabilities include automated, accurate real time quotations for access networks globally; powerful network optimization algorithms that deliver optimized network views; and workflow engines that manage the entire lifecycle of access networking.
One Marketplace Network Exchange is Global Capacity’s physical access network distribution platform, enabling efficiency in the delivery of access network solutions. It provides seamless distribution of access options through a single interconnection, enabling cost-effective solutions across geographies and suppliers.
Global Capacity was formed in 2006 through the merger of three companies that were brought together to create the Global Access Network Exchange. The company has an operating history dating back to 1997.
Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: Global Capacity takes a unique approach to addressing the challenges of the global access network market. With thousands of primary suppliers, each managing technologies, standards, market regulations and business rules that vary across geographies, the global access network market is extraordinarily fragmented and disparate, creating confusion and inefficiency for customers.
Global Capacity leverages its two core platforms – One Marketplace Information Exchange and One Marketplace Network Exchange – to enable clients to design, price, procure, manage and optimize access network solutions more efficiently, and at lower cost. By using the power of information and automation to create transparency and efficiency, along with offering the ability to fulfill demand through a single physical access network platform, Global Capacity dramatically simplifies access networks for customers.
Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: The global access market is highly fragmented, which is both Global Capacity’s challenge and its opportunity. Collecting, implementing and maintaining a global set of telecom location, supply and pricing information is a daunting task, but one at which Global Capacity excels, enabling real value creation for its customers.
Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: As Global Capacity continues to create market awareness and deliver customer value, the ability to scale the business to meet increasing demand will need to be closely managed.
Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?
A: In 2010, Global Capacity’s One Marketplace Information Exchange generated over $9 billion of annualized demand for access networks. As more customers and suppliers continue to participate in the One Marketplace Global Access Exchange, that number will continue to grow.
In 2011, Global Capacity was acquired by Pivotal Group, providing the company with the financial strength and stability required to invest in and grow its business.
Q: Why is it important for your company to be a COMPTEL member?
A: Global Capacity’s vision of enabling ubiquitous access network solutions across geographies and suppliers through its One Marketplace Global Access Exchange is a benefit to carriers and service providers, both as suppliers and as customers. Global Capacity provides efficient access solutions for off-net requirements, while driving on-net demand to members of its Exchange. COMPTEL is a strategic forum to help establish and maintain those important supplier and customer relationships.
