INCOMPAS Joins Letter Voicing Opposition to Section 230 Legislation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 21, 2024 – INCOMPAS joined a letter with multiple stakeholders and associations that are focused on preserving and protecting Section 230. This letter is in response to the bipartisan discussion draft of legislation that proposes to sunset Section 230.
"Section 230 is the underpinning of our internet ecosystem that has enabled a vibrant online economy," said INCOMPAS CEO Chip Pickering. "The protections afforded by this provision play an essential role in supporting businesses of all sizes in multiple industries. They are responsible for the rapid growth in the online economy over the years, which has contributed to creating millions of American jobs, innovative new ideas, and trillions of dollars in economic growth."
"Unfortunately, this piece of legislation completely ignores the significant harms that will occur to businesses of all sizes if these protections no longer exist," Pickering continues. "I strongly urge Members to discuss sensible reforms that protect consumers and competition, and won't unravel the entire digital economy by sunsetting Section 230."
