INCOMPAS/BroadLand: Broadband Incentives for Communities Act Speeds Local Deployment
WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 23, 2021) – With the potential for record levels of investment into broadband infrastructure, it will be critical to support cities and local communities looking to speed deployment of faster, future focused networks that attract competition, investment and jobs.
To help support local officials, Representative Lizzie Fletcher (D-TX) has introduced the ‘Broadband Incentives for Communities Act’ which would make funding available to communities to train and hire employees and purchase updated technology and equipment that would facilitate the permitting process and speed deployment and increase broadband competition.
In support of the legislation, Chip Pickering, CEO of INCOMPAS, released the following statement:
“Deploying faster speed broadband networks to families and small businesses is a national priority that requires local expertise. Done right, historic broadband infrastructure funding has the potential to transform local communities by attracting new jobs, investment and more competition to every city, small town and rural area.
“The ‘Broadband Incentives for Communities Act' introduced by Representative Lizzie Fletcher is a smart and future focused way to ensure federal broadband funding is maximized and invested wisely and quickly to help speed the deployment of new fiber and 5G networks that will grow education and economic opportunities faster and better.”
