INCOMPAS/BroadLand Statement on Vice President Harris Broadband Infrastructure Remarks
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 3, 2021) – Today Vice President Kamala Harris delivered remarks on the need for broadband investment, highlighting the need for more competition as we connect tribal, rural and urban communities. The White House announced a $1 billion investment program* to help connect tribal lands via wired and wireless solutions, pointing out that laying fiber creates jobs.
In response, Mignon Clyburn, Co-Chair of the new BroadLand campaign, released the following statement:
“Broadband builds hopes, dreams and jobs for families in each and every community. Vice President Harris and the White House today stressed the need for increasing competition and reducing costs while holding strong to their $100 billion commitment to bring better broadband to all Americans and fully close the digital divide. Every penny spent on broadband is a down payment on a better future, and we support the White House efforts to create deployment jobs, workforce training and digital literacy skills."
“We look forward to working with bipartisan Members of Congress, the White House, Secretary Deb Haaland and Secretary Gina Raimondo on broadband policies that make internet for all a reality.”
