INCOMPAS Statement on FCC Action on Transport Element of Bridge to Broadband

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 10, 2019) – In response to the FCC vote on the transport item today, Chip Pickering, CEO of INCOMPAS released the following statement:

“Transport is an important link for competitors deploying fiber in small towns in Missouri, Oregon and across America.  Transport is a bridge to broadband that helps connect populated areas to more remote communities.

“We commend the Commission for preventing USTelecom’s nationwide competition cut off.  We will wait for information as to which communities will be impacted by the loss of this critical tool to fiber build and look forward to working with the Commission to make sure rural communities are not cut off.  We are encouraged that the Commission recognized the need for a transition time — although longer ones may be needed in certain circumstances — when changing such critical laws.  We also celebrate the preservation of access to dark fiber across the country.”
