INCOMPAS Supports FCC Movement on Robocalls and Robotexts
WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 16, 2023 – INCOMPAS, the internet and competitive networks association, released the following statement in response to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) addressing robocall and robotext mitigation at its March Open Meeting.
“We applaud the FCC’s action today to require intermediate providers to implement call authentication technology and practices in their robocall mitigation efforts," said INCOMPAS Executive Director of Public Policy Christopher Shipley. "Requiring the first intermediate provider in the call path to authenticate calls addresses a significant regulatory gap—ensuring that all providers along the call path are exchanging authenticated calls—and will help maximize the value and effectiveness of the STIR/SHAKEN solution."
"INCOMPAS also supports the Commission's endorsement of greater regulatory symmetry with respect to its robocall mitigation rules and the first incremental steps it is taking to address the growing problem of illegal robotexting. INCOMPAS looks forward to continuing our work with the Commission to address the problem of illegal robocalling and text messaging while preserving competition and innovation in the market, and addressing the important remaining issues in the items' further request for comment."
