INCOMPAS: Net Neutrality Court Decision Opens Door to Congress to Save Streaming Revolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 1, 2019) – Today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (D.C. Circuit) ruled on INCOMPAS’s landmark court challenge to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) open internet roll back. The court sent the decision back to the FCC and opened new fronts in the battle to save the internet.

INCOMPAS, the internet and competitive networks association that represents leading streaming providers, internet edge providers and fiber builders, was a lead petitioner in the court case.

In response to the D.C. Circuit’s Net Neutrality decision, Chip Pickering, CEO of INCOMPAS released the following statement:

“The D.C. Circuit’s decision is good news for the future of net neutrality. It will force action in Congress to support stronger national open internet protections that promotes deployment, competition, and the streaming revolution.

“Without strong net neutrality and interconnection policy, consumers and main street businesses are not guaranteed an open internet. This creates massive uncertainty that could slow down our entire economy and America’s efforts to build networks of the future.

“Now is the time for Congress to act to protect net neutrality.  The House has passed the Save the Internet Act and the Senate has supported bipartisan action in favor of stronger streaming friendly open internet policy.”

“INCOMPAS is proud to have led the fight in the courts, and would like to thank and praise our all-star legal team, our member companies and our friends and partners in the consumer and public interest community. Net neutrality is a battle for the future, and the D.C. Circuit was well prepared and acutely attuned to the harms to consumers, public safety, innovation and small businesses, and we thank the court for its diligence.”
