Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: Founded in 2004, Accedian Networks is the leader in Performance Assured Networking™ for mobile backhaul, business services and cloud connectivity. Accedian’s solutions deliver the most precise network performance measurements, advanced service creation and traffic management capabilities that provide service providers and network operators with network visibility; thus empowering them to optimize, improve and manage the performance of their network, and deliver the best possible experience to their subscribers.
Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: Accedian is managed by a highly talented, dedicated and seasoned team of telecom executives; and has earned a reputation for innovation, responsive product development and superior customer care. Today, Accedian also is regarded as an industry thought leader through our close involvement with our customers, as well as our contributions to related industry groups, conferences and standards bodies.
Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: Many mobile operators were used to a certain way of networking, using switches and routers at cell phone sites and if there was a problem in the network, a technician had to physically go to the cell site to perform tests. Accedian’s Performance Assured Networking solutions changed all of this, by placing testing capabilities in many areas of the networks thus revolutionizing the way networks are built.
The old way of upgrading technology that is located at cell sites, was to drive out to the site, remove the old equipment and replace it with new equipment. The Accedian team found this to be quite cumbersome and time consuming. So the company created field-programmable FPGA chips into each of our products, this revolution in technology enabled mobile operators to make changes to the FPGA chip (the heart of the technology) remotely, from a central office/central location without having to send a truck and technician out to the cell site to make the change. This was quite a drastic change for mobile operators and a commercial challenge for the company.
The commercial challenge was that Accedian had to convince global and large Tier-1 mobile operators that this new way of remote testing was the way to go and that it was possible to have this kind of technological creativity.
This was achieved by the Accedian senior management team’s hands on approach. They spoke with potential customers and did a plethora of proof of concept (PoC) projects to showcase the company’s unique solutions in action to the potential customers. The team has done this with all of our products. This method of placing our solutions directly in the mobile operators testing environment provides the mobile operator with an ingenious way to showcase the technology and its capabilities – in a controlled environment.
Accedian works closely with existing customers by including them in the product development process. By doing so, Accedian has been able to get the customers’ first-hand feedback as the solutions are being developed so when the product is ready for launch, it has been vetted by actual mobile operator customers. What’s more, many of these mobile operators speak with one another, so having a positive testimonial from an existing customer has helped to remove any concerns from new/potential customers. With its forward-thinking technology and this inclusive approach to technology, Accedian has a global installed base.
Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: The market is quickly moving and with that technology companies need to be forward thinking and continue to innovate. Accedian welcomes these challenges and continues to look forward to fully continuing to drive innovation for our mobile operator and service provider customers when it comes to Performance Assured Networking.

A: We strongly believe that being a part of the COMPTEL community is key to continuing to play a role in the service provider and mobile operator dialogue. Furthermore, being a COMPTEL member allows us to participate in a variety of events and forums in which we can share our technology with the people who are in a position to drive forward Performance Assured Networking within their organizations.
