Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: InfoVista is the leading provider of IP and RF network planning, service assurance and network optimization software solutions and services that enable efficient network and IT transformations. Its award-winning solutions empower communications service providers (CSPs) and IT-intensive enterprises to deliver high-performing and differentiated services, while cost-effectively planning, operating, optimizing and monetizing their networks. InfoVista’s combined expertise and technology innovations in radio and IP networks provide more than 550 customers worldwide with a new level of network intelligence, visibility and control across the entire network life cycle. Using InfoVista solutions, they deliver optimal quality of service, ensure a high-quality user experience, invest appropriately and consolidate their OSS/BSS ecosystems, while keeping total cost of ownership as low as possible.
Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: Mobile data usage is at an all-time high, which means operators need to rapidly evolve their networks and improve capacity to ensure the best possible customer experience. The result is an increasingly complex network, with layers of 2G, 3G and 4G technology, as well as backhaul components and scattered small cells. All of this makes it extremely difficult for operators to guarantee a high quality of service (QoS) for subscribers without over-provisioning their networks. InfoVista has been successful in the communications industry because its solutions enable operators to overcome this gap.
On the business service front, communication service providers have to fight the price erosion of their legacy VPN-based services, and more and more of their enterprise customers believe that they do not get the value they expected from these services. Moreover, with complex applications, cloud computing and employees using personal devices at work, it’s becoming quite difficult for their network operation team to troubleshoot poor performances and diagnose if service delivery issues are in the network service they deliver or in the application of their customers. With on-demand customer reporting, and an application performance management solution that integrates with network performance management, we enable CSPs to deliver more value to their business customers, drive competitive advantages through differentiation and boost their Internet and VPN service revenue streams.
In order to remain agile in the wake of this new technology, it’s critical for network services to be tested and improved at every step of the network lifecycle, so new investments are living up to expectations. This starts with accurate network planning, orchestrating end-to-end network performance and ends with overall and ongoing network optimization. This can be achieved with InfoVista’s solutions. With InfoVista’s technology, operators can holistically manage all of the steps in the network lifecycle to ensure subscribers are enjoying a consistently high quality of experience (QoE). Being able to offer operators this view of the network has been key to InfoVista’s success and growing customer base.
Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: As networks and their supporting technology continue to evolve, so should vendors. Operators today face combating customer churn during the current phase of mobile data growth and the evolution of mobile technology. In turn, customer churn also has presented a challenge for InfoVista in that it is InfoVista’s responsibility to ensure subscribers are experiencing the best possible QoE from their operators.
InfoVista has been able to stay ahead of the curve by integrating technology to monitor carrier Ethernet, application performance, small cells and other tools that are helping alleviate network capacity pressure into its product set. These solutions help operators support those efforts with service-level reporting and performance monitoring capabilities, granting subscribers an experience and service that exceeds their expectations.
Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: As networks continue to rapidly evolve, new technologies like SDN, NFV and cloud RAN are becoming increasingly prominent. While these present a number of opportunities for operators, they create a number of challenges. As such, operators are turning to InfoVista for help effectively managing and allocating new network investments and ensuring high network performance. These operators want to remain agile in the wake of new technology, and it will be vital that InfoVista continues to ensure we have the right solutions to do so. While this is no easy feat, evolving with our customers amid the changing telco landscape is part of our DNA, and something we will continue to succeed at.
To do this, it will be important to offer operators the tools they need to monitor mobile network services across all domains, such as Mentum Planet and Xeus Pro. By leveraging Mentum Planet’s state-of-the-art modeling capabilities, engineers and optimization departments can select the best deployment scenarios, automate RF network planning and design, and manage large-scale networks. Likewise, Xeus Pro’s ability to intelligently post-process and analyze multiple network data sources enables RF optimization engineers to holistically manage and optimize their mobile networks. Xeus Pro provides superior visualization, in-depth analysis, reporting and troubleshooting capabilities for engineers.
Mentum Planet and Xeus Pro help network engineers successfully plan, design, manage and troubleshoot networks to ensure each network is preforming to the best of its abilities and each end-user is receiving quality service, combating the challenges brought by new technologies. Time will only tell what new trends will need addressing in the coming months!
Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?
A: InfoVista recently wrapped up a strong fiscal year, filled with many exciting achievements, including new customer wins and a successful user conference.
Customer wins included Vertel and WOW!, among others. InfoVista helped Vertel improve the efficiency of its fixed and wireless network planning and design, and is helping WOW! manage its Carrier Ethernet network and service performance.
Furthering this market success, InfoVista acquired mobile network optimization specialist Aexio in late 2013. Nearly one year after the acquisition of Mentum, this move reaffirmed InfoVista’s strategy to enable CSPs to better plan, operate, optimize and monetize their networks. InfoVista has leveraged Aexio’s subscriber geo-analytics, RF optimization and configuration management expertise to broaden its data collection capabilities. This, in turn, helps customers transform network, service and subscriber information into actionable network intelligence to improve mobile network optimization.
Other notable achievements include the launches of VistaInsight for Planet and Mentum Planet 5.7. Both products leverage technology gained from the Mentum acquisition. Mentum Planet 5.7 concentrates on helping plan every stage in the network lifecycle, while VistaInsight for Planet automates this process, enabling RF engineers to leverage rich performance data collected from the network. With manual data inputting no longer necessary, operators can save time and resources with the ability to access data from within Mentum Planet in real time.
Last but not least, since launching our Application Service Visibility in 2013, four major CSPs have partnered with InfoVista to better monetize their cloud, Internet and VPN services to their enterprise customers revenue streams.
Q: Why is it important for your company to be a COMPTEL member?
A: COMPTEL is an important organization in the telecommunications industry. As a member, InfoVista is able to share ideas and tools with key leaders across the industry, and benefit from the association’s connections and resources.
