Q: What does your company do and how long has it been in operation?
A: GWI is a leading provider and innovator in Northern New England’s telecommunication industry. We offer innovative and cost effective telephone service, broadband Internet access, wide area networks and cloud computing solutions to business customers as well as telephone and internet services for residential users. Today, we are deploying state-of-the-art 10 gigabit networks from the Canadian border to Boston and New York.
GWI began as a dial-up ISP in 1994, expanding into broadband access in 2002 and phone service in 2005. We've been recognized four times by Inc. Magazine for our rapid growth, as members of the Inc. 500 in 2003 and 2004, and the Inc. 5000 in 2010 and 2011.

Q: To what do you attribute your company’s success in the communications industry?
A: GWI has been successful thanks to the efforts of an exceptional group of people, including first rate service and support personnel that provide exemplary customer care, engineers that build rock-solid networks, and a management team with a proven track record of adapting successfully to a rapidly changing industry.

Q: What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced in the marketplace?
A: Over the years we've seen significant change in the technologies we use and the services we offer our customers.  In addition, changes in telecommunications regulation can impact our business significantly, for better or worse, on short notice. That's one reason COMPTEL’s advocacy on behalf of competitive carriers is so important.

Q: What do you see as your greatest challenges going forward?
A: In the Internet era, all businesses will have to continue to accelerate the process of innovation, remaking themselves more and more quickly, in order to survive and thrive as the technological environment changes.

Q: What have been some of your company’s most recent achievements (new customer wins, new service/product deployment, etc.)?

  • 5000 List of Fastest Growing Private Companies, 2010, 2011
